Who I Am

teacher.jpg

Jamal Mavrikios

I've always been a language geek and am a teacher by nature. I've taught Arabic since March, 2001, when I founded Pacific Arabic, a language school for adults in San Francisco. I taught group and individual classes, and developed curricula for Standard and Moroccan Arabic. In 2013 I established an Arabic program for middle school and high school students at the French American International School, culminating in an international baccalaureate diploma in Arabic. While teaching there I brought several groups of seventh graders on linguistic trips to Morocco.

In 2017 I moved to Puerto Rico, where I manage Pacific Arabic remotely, consult to College Board, teach English to corporate personnel and teach Arabic through Pacific Arabic and Language Satellite.

I'm a member of the American Association of Teachers of Arabic, the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, the National Council of Less Commonly Taught Languages, the Computer-Assisted Language Instruction Consortium, the International Society for Technology in Education...and Sigma Delta Pi.
